My name is Ingrid Fernandez and I created "Medical Transcription At Home" after realizing the lack of thorough medical transcription guides on what are the steps on how to become a medical transcriptionist. There are tons of medical transcription websites out there, but not many of them speak to beginners and explain the process from start to finish.
I always wanted to work from home but never knew what to do. One day I was searching on the internet and came across medical transcription websites. I found it very interesting since I was good on computers and I spent hours in front of a computer typing and reviewing loan documents. I had to do a lot of research since I never understood the entire process of how this all came together.
I started looking into medical transcription schools and came across Career Step and enrolled in their medical transcription program. I did not enroll right away since I was always putting it off. I would remember when I would have a bad day at work and I would say that I was going to finally enroll and one day I just did it and dove right in.
I can honestly say it was the best investment and decision that I could have made and I have not looked back since. I started studying every chance I got (lunch breaks, the waiting room while I was at the dentist, etc.) and I completed my medical transcription course in 5 months. Right after I graduated I started applying for medical transcription positions and was hired by a company 1½ months later. I was very blessed of how smooth everything turned out for me. Everything seemed to fall right into place. I knew that all the hard work and research that I did really paid off.
I of course resigned my job as a Senor Loan Specialist working for a mortgage company over 7 years ago and I moved from the US to Costa Rica. I do not miss those 9-7 p.m. long week days, going into the office, or especially the traffic. I really enjoy working from home and being able to make my own schedule. Since everything is done over the internet you basically can live and work anywhere. I visit my family a lot in the US and work when I am there off my laptop.
I always get asked how someone can start off working as a medical transcriptionist from home and I decided to take all the knowledge that I learned and all the research that I did and create this free comprehensive medical transcription site.
