Where To Find Medical Transcription Jobs Online?

Here is where all your hard work comes into play. One of the biggest challenges for a newly trained medical transcriptionist is finding that first job at home. The classic dilemma is how do you land a medical transcription job at home when no one will hire you to give you experience?

I know that this is where quality medical transcription training comes in very handy. If you make the right choice in medical transcription schools, the reputation of the school will help you to land a good job working at home. As I said before, schools such as Career Step have good reputations with many employers and in turn make getting hired much easier. This is exactly how it played out for me.

Another great way to find your first medical transcription job at home is to start asking around at medical transcription forums to see if anyone knows of a company that is currently hiring newly trained medical transcriptionists. You will be amazed how many responses you will get back.

There are also companies that will hire new medical transcriptionists to work from home such as MedQuist. MedQuist is one of the employers that hire Career Steps graduates. They also ask you to be a recent graduate of an AHDI, certified transcription training program. They allow new graduates to take an entry test and if you pass you will be offered a position with the company. There are companies out there that will do this.

When looking for medical transcription jobs at home you will see that most companies have you take a pre-employment transcription test to show that you do have the skills/knowledge required to work as a medical transcriptionist. This can include testing your vocabulary, medical terminology, and grammar. These tests are generally done online. From experience, they are not too long and they are mostly always multiple choices, but they feel long since you will be looking up many of the words in your medical reference materials or on the internet to make sure you are answering the questions correctly. Also keep in mind that if you do not pass most medical transcription companies will not allow you to re-take a medical transcription test right away; some require you wait at least 6 months before you can re-take the test with them again. So take your time, look up the questions if needed, and answer the questions correctly.

Don't give up if you haven't found the right company yet. Keep in mind that tens of thousands of other medical transcriptionists have found a job at home and so can you!

Medical Transcription Forums:

Also, stay up-to-date and participate in medical transcription forums and chat rooms. What you haven't heard about on your own, someone else on the forum is certain to have heard of. This will keep you up-to-date on what is going on in the medical transcription world and any changes that have occurred such as new jobs at home, equipment, questions about reports, how words should be spelled, salaries, etc. I have found forums to be very helpful when I have had questions or was stuck on something. A good medical transcription school has resources such as a forums, chat rooms, and student support that are great. I found myself still talking to students that I traded e-mails when I was attending my training course. If not, there are many other medical transcription sites available as well.
