Medical Transcriptionist (MT):

What Is A Medical Transcriptionist?

Remember that there's a lot of information on this medical transcription (MT) site and if you're a beginner, it can be overwhelming.  I created this free medical transcription guide just to give you an idea of what's involved in becoming a medical transcriptionist working at home.

I encourage you to read it through once without clicking on any of the links just so you can understand the big picture. Then after you've absorbed the information, go back and click on the links for more information.

First of all, let's first go over what is a medical transcriptionist:

Medical Transcriptionist (also known as "MT") involves listening to a doctor dictating medical reports and accurately transcribing them into a properly formatted and accurate medical document.  A medical transcriptionist can work at home or in-house (going into an office every day).

Every time you visit the doctor, whether it's an emergency visit, a stay in the hospital, a regular routine checkup, or if you are seeing a specialist for a specific problem there is a documented record made of your visit. The doctor will dictate this into an audio, which in turn you will listen to an oral dictation of the visit and transcribe it into a medical report to be placed either as a hard copy or digital copy into the patient's records.

In more simple terms, you will be listening to a doctor dictating a medical report on a patient and you will be typing it out for him/her.

Can Medical Transcriptionist Work At Home?

Yes, absolutely you can work at home as a medical transcriptionist; if you have the right knowledge and medical transcription training. Medical Transcription is becoming increasingly popular as a work-from-home profession. The convenience of a home office appeals to some people on its own virtues, while parents may value the opportunity to stay close to their young children and still support the family full time. No matter what the reason, if you're looking to work from home, you should seriously consider medical transcription.

Working from home gives you the opportunity to work all over the U.S. For instance, a medical transcriptionist living in Miami may work at home for an employer located in New York (I know from experience since this is how I have been employed for the last 7+ years now). Remember that everything is done via the internet.
