Medical Transcription Scams (MT Scams):

How To Prevent Medical Transcription Scams?

Since the idea of becoming a medical transcriptionist is very appealing, there is as with everything, scams out there with medical transcription training schools and with medical transcription employment also.

This part is not made to discourage you or scare you in any way, but to make you aware that there are people that take advantage of those who don't do their research. Sad to say, this happens in just about anything now a days. The important thing is that you are made aware and you can spot out a scam and stay away from these kinds of things.

There are a few different medical transcriptionist scams which are currently very common. Here are some of the different types of medical transcription scams and how to avoid them.

Medical Transcription Scams

Medical Transcription Training School Scams:

You might come across a medical transcription training school that offers courses in order to earn your certificate. The website may seem legitimate and everything looks normal, but there are several things that you should now.

One of the things that can happen is that the medical transcription training school might not even exist. You will be required to send your first payment or deposit to them by a certain deadline. After you send your payment or deposit and it has been received, you will never hear from the medical transcription school again. In some cases, you may find that the website may no longer exist. Not only will you have lost your money, but there will be no way for you to contact the administration of the school to find out what is going on.

Another one of the things that can happen is that the medical transcription school might not be accredited. You might not find out that it is not accredited until you have tried to get a job with your certificate once it has been earned. All of the money and time that you have spent earning your certificate through an unaccredited school will be a complete waste.

How To Prevent This Happening To You:

That is why it is important to make sure you do your research and look for medical transcription schools that are AHDI approved and have credibility to them. Don’t be afraid to check the internet and check out what people are saying about online medical transcription training schools.

Medical Transcription Employment Scams:

One of the biggest scams that I have heard about is when a company wants you to purchase their overpriced software and equipment so that you can work from home as a medical transcriptionist.

Since they offer you work and it seems so easy, you purchase the software from the company and do the work for them. The company promises that they will pay you after a certain period of time. After that time period, you will come to find that the company had no intentions of paying you at all. Some companies may continue to make false promises of paying you as long as you continue doing work for them, while others may break off complete contact with you. Your time and money have both been wasted.

How To Prevent This Happening To You:

The most important thing that you can do in order to prevent this type of medical transcription scam from happening to you is stay away from companies who claim that you need to purchase their software or equipment in order to work from them. A legitimate company will not require you to purchase anything or pay any type of start-up fee. The best way to find a legitimate medical transcription job is to look at legitimate websites that offer creditable companies (we will get into that later), your online medical transcription training school can help, forums, etc. Avoid scams by using your instincts and if in doubt you can always check with the Better Business Bureau.
