Medical Transcription Training (MT Training):

Why You Need A Good Medical Transcription Training School Online?

Medical Transcription Training

I can't express to you how important it is to make the right choice when it comes to a medical transcription training school online. There are so many to choose from, so which one is the right one?

Let's see if we can narrow this down for you. There are so many training schools online that offer courses in medical transcription that will give you these necessary skills. However, not all medical transcription courses online are equal, and some will provide you with less value for your money than others. There are really only a few medical transcription training schools online that truly meet these skills (that is, medical transcription training school that prepare you to get a job upon graduation).

Remember there is no crash course in medical transcription training Online!

Top AHDI Approved Medical Transcription Courses - Here is a list of MT courses.

A good medical transcription training school online will guide you through the process systematically (step-by-step). You're going to be looking for a medical transcription training school online that teaches you the medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology and disease processes, abbreviations and plurals, grammar and punctuation, building many different medical reports, and a host of other foundation material, all from a medical transcriptionist's perspective (in the next step I list the top medical transcription courses online).

What To Look For In A Medical Transcription Training School Online:

When looking for a medical transcription training school online look for a school that has been approved by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI formerly the AAMT) or/and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

AHDI Approval means that the medical transcription schools follow the AHDI Model Curriculum, provide at least 35 hours of real physician dictation, have at least one CMT involved, uses the AHDI Book of Style, must have existed for at least six months and have provided student placement statistics and must offer course instructors to students, as well as other criteria. You will see that this approval (AHDI) is well regarded by many medical transcription employers.

In my opinion, you should always look first for a school that is AHDI approved. I am not saying that an AHDI member is not as good, but make sure they follow the above AHDI Model Curriculum and use the AHDI Book of Styles so that you can get the proper training you need to become a medical transcriptionist.

I know this all sounds overwhelming, but trust me when you have a good medical transcription training school online they have books and modules that guide you through each step process. They also allow you to work at your own pace from home online. You also have online trainers who can assist you with any questions you might have. This is a medical transcription training school online that goes way beyond other medical transcription training schools teaching you everything that is needed to start working as a medical transcriptionist when you graduate.

You will read that most medical transcription companies that hire people to work at home require at least 1-2 years of experience. This is true, but some will waive that if you attend the right medical transcription training school online like Career Step or other top schools (I list the tops medical transcription schools online in the next step) that prepare you correctly and they know this. I was hired 1½ months after I graduated from Career Step to work at home and I believe it was due to the good medical transcription training online I had and the post-graduation resources they offered.

MT Training Career Step

When looking for a medical transcription training school online you should also check to see about relationships they may have with national transcription companies. Many well-known medical transcription training online programs have partnered with medical transcription training schools to offer a kind of training to career track for its students. Career Step is one of the medical transcription training schools online that has partnered with well-known companies (such as MedQuist, Amphion, eTransPlus, All Type, etc.) to provide a type of career track for their students.

Another thing that I really think is helpful is that Career Step offers personalized, post-graduation resources for your job search, including:

    • Personal consultation with an employment advisor
    • Access to employment and referral directories
    • Contracts and pricing guide
    • Personalized interview tutorials and training
    • Individual resume and sales letter review, tips, and advice
    • Access to Career Step's help hotline for a full year after graduation

These resources offer the personalized help you need after graduation to quickly and easily transition to the workplace. With this individualized help and attention, the vast majority of our graduates are hired within a few months of graduation, which is what happened with me!

One of the medical transcription training schools onlineI would strongly recommend to you would be Career Step. I recommend them and talk about them throughout my webpage because from experience they showed me everything that I needed to know to start right away as a medical transcriptionist and like I said I got hired 1½ months after I finished my course with them and working from home. I know this does not happen to everyone (it can happen to you) but with the right training, companies do see what knowledge you know and will give you that change. They have a good reputation with many employers, the price is reasonable and affordable, and they are AHDI approved which means they met all the required curriculums as all the other more expensive training schools online do. They also offer financing options for those who have concerns in that area.

You will see many cheaper medical transcription training schools online out there, but they don't cover all the medical transcription training you need to obtain a job after graduation and are not AHDI approved (cheap is not always better in this case). I believe it's better to spend a bit more and build the career you are looking for from the start.

Whether you go with the training school I recommend or another medical transcription training school make sure you're looking for an investment in yourself, you will definitely want a program that incorporates all there is to learn AND THEN SOME.

Other Options For Medical Transcription Training School (MT Schools):

You can also obtain medical transcription training through a vocational school or college course in your area. These would be less expensive, but the only drawback would be you would have to attend classes physically as apposed to an online medical transcription training school that you can complete at home at your own pace. It all depends on which one is more convenient for you.
